Aims & objectives
Clothing & Textile education opens the door for major professional areas, namely- Educational Institutions, Business and Industry (specially of textile and garments sector), Community service, Research & Administration.

This Course will incorporate a broad based curriculum permitting applied science and technology to provide a basis for further in-depth study and research, and as preparation for employment in any related field following the subject.

Students will gain advanced knowledge on textile, specifically on apparel technology, quality control, merchandizing, including the application of computer on this sector.

This course will provide a sound technical knowledge, as well as management concept, to real situations in the professional areas.

B.Sc.(Hons) & M.S. course or the final year is the most important course for the department of Clothing & Textile in Home Economics. By passing M.S. in Clothing & Textile a student attains a high level of intellectual and imaginative development and shows marked ability and initiative in the knowledge of theoretical concepts and their application to practical situations in the major discipline.

Career opportunity

Clothing & Textile is one of the most important subjects of Home Economics. It is a job related and practical oriented subject. By passing this subject a student can achieve artistic as well as technical skills. She can get a job or engage herself in a self employed business. Besides, this subject opens the door for major professional areas, namely- Educational Institution, Business and Industry (especially of Textile and garments sector), Community Service, Research & Administration. Our students are capable of holding the post of different sector, such as-designing, merchandizing, quality control, fabric testing, buying house, bank etc. Currently a few of many posts which are occupied by our students are- The designer of MCC, Beximco, K-Craft, Grameen check; Teaching assistant, junior lecturers and lecturer of Santa Mariam University of Creative & Technology; Lecturer of City University; Lecturer of degree programmed of ASTU. Production Executive of Sada Kalo & the Chief Fashion Designer of Danish Design Studio of Williams Groups are our students. Our students are already successfully servicing in BCS cadre service (Education, information), which indicates that our students are capable of holding the important post of different fields. So we believe it is a very effective & time-befitting subject in Home Economics.

Syllabus for one year M.S. Course In Home Economics
(Department of Clothing & Textile)

For the Session: 2007-2008 and onward


The curriculum for M.S. course in Clothing & Textile, shall be offered over the period of one academic year. Students who have passed Hons. examination in Home Economics(Clothing & Textile) will be admitted to the M.S. course in Clothing & Textile. A total of 6 units (600 marks) of courses are modified and distributed as followed as per regulations of the faculty of Biological Sciences, under, the University of Dhaka. There will be a final examination at the end of academic year for students in both theoretical and practical courses and results will be published as per regulation of the Controller of Examination , University of Dhaka.
There will be a total of six units for both Groups A (General) and Group B (Thesis) students. The course distribution will be as follows:
Group A (General):

Theory : 4.0 units
Practical : 0.5 units
Internship/ Field work : 0.5 units
Seminar : 0.5 units
Viva- voce : 0.5 units
Total : 6.0 units
The minimum required time for internship is 210 hours to be spread over 30 working days beyond final report writing. 
Group B (Thesis):

Theory : 4.0 units
Thesis : 1.0 units
Seminar : 0.5 units
Viva- voce : 0.5 units
Total : 6.0 units
To be offered to selected number of students. Selection will be based on merit and teacher facilities. Final selection will be done by the selection board.
